Atlantic Coast Challenge 2015 – Co. Sligo Golf Club

View from the 12th tee over the 11th green, to Benbulben.
We were expecting rain… massive, massive amounts of rain. This is the north west after all and, despite the centenary celebrations for a certain Mr Yeats, there is little anyone can do about the weather.

How we then managed to play 12 holes in sunshine is beyond me. For the opening holes we endured that constant drizzle that epitomises so many Irish days, the ones that settle over you like a dull, relentless migraine. I assumed – as did my playing partners – that it was down for the day, yet an hour later it was sunshine. Benbulben
never quite shook of its shroud of cloud and mist, but the golf course enjoyed its coating of sunshine and golfers across the course suddenly found cause for a better mood… performance depending, of course.

This is Day 1 of the Atlantic Coast Challenge, and I can’t say that much was expected in the scoring department of our team (and we weren't disappointed). Instead, it was an opportunity to lap up the beauty of Rosses Point, try to avoid losing balls and catch up on friendships and gossip about families, work and the complete inaccuracy of weather predictions.

Here are some photos from the course today.
