Who wants to take on The Island? GM Required

The straight but very tough par four 18th.
The Island Golf Club found themselves down a General Manager recently when the effervescent Maurice O'Meara took on a similar role at Dooks Golf Club. Before The Island he was at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, so, based on his geographical yoyo-ing, the chances are he'll be back on the east coast before long.

That leaves The Island Golf Club in search of a new GM... is that you? Can
you succeed in managing and marketing one of the best courses in Ireland? You'd think a 'product' this good would sell itself... but no, sadly, there is some work involved. Here's the job requirement:

The Island Golf Club, founded in 1890, is a traditional private members' golf club with a proud history of upholding the best traditions of amateur golf.  Overlooked by the North County Dublin village of Malahide, the links is located in some of the most stunning dunes on the east coast of Ireland.  It is also one of the oldest golf courses in Ireland and was ranked 13th in Golf Digest Ireland's Top 100 Courses in 2015.  It enjoys a growing international reputation and currently hosts Regional Qualifying for The Open Championship.
Approach to the short par four 8th
The club, with over 900 members, seeks to appoint a General Manager who is dynamic and has proven management experience.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all aspects of the club including office administration, club finances, and food and beverage.  He or she will require the following attributes:
  • Knowledge of golf, appreciation of the traditions of a private members' club and a willingness to work flexible hours when required
  • Strong leadership, motivation, communication, and people management skills
  • Ability to successfully manage income and expenditure
  • Ability to complete tasks/projects within agreed timescales
  • Knowledge of human resources and employment legislation
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
  • Computer literacy
  • Marketing skills
  • Attention to detail

The successful candidate will report directly to the Management Council through the Honorary Secretary.  He or she will also work closely with the Mens' and Ladies' Clubs and the various sub-committees.

The par three 16th. The green sits surprisingly high up.
Applications (to include CV and references) should be posted to Honorary Secretary, The Island Golf Club, Donabate, County Dublin or, alternatively, emailed to honsec@theislandgolfclub.com (Closing date for applications is Friday 11th September)

If you want to learn a little more about the club, check out their website, www.theislandgolfclub.com, and/or read the article I wrote for Irish Golfer Magazine in February. It's a course I adore and it only gets better with each round I play.
