Golf News... Episode 2

The par three 14th at Mount Juliet
Here are six bits and pieces of news from around the 'Irish' golfing world.

Just Golf Top 40 Irish Courses

This is the second annual ranking by JustGolf.ie... or should I say by the regular golfers who subscribe to Just Golf's service... a number well into the thousands. You'll find the list on this link. I'd suggest you keep an
open mind as you're unlikely to agree with some of the rankings. That doesn't make the list any less valid than other lists by the way, and it is refreshing to see five parklands in the top ten.

ClubsToHire.com

As an Irish company, ClubsToHire has been expanding its club hire service steadily around Europe and, more recently, in the USA, Caribbean, Asia and Africa. They have always been known for the quality of their clubs and introducing the latest models. The latest models which will be available from Feb 1st are the new Taylormade M1 Driver and RSi irons. Initially available at Faro and Malaga. For ladies, the new Taylormade Kalea will be available, too.

Charlesland Golf Club

View from the clubhouse to the new 6th green.
Two of Charlesland's holes are being revised: the par four 1st and the par four 6th. Two new tee boxes and a new green for the 6th. The course is being managed by Carr Golf.

Premier Parkland Pass

Three of Ireland's top parkland courses have come together to offer a special pass for the price of €123. Carlow, Mount Wolseley and Mount Juliet golf clubs make quite the triumvirate... and I don't think anyone would argue with that value. Contact any of the golf clubs for further details and/or to buy the pass.

The Fab Four Society Special

A dedicated package of four rounds of golf for societies who are happy to visit some of the top courses around Dublin. The courses are Powerscourt, Carton House, Druid's Heath and St. Margaret's. And the price is €120 when playing midweek or €145 for weekends.

Check out page 3 of the newsletter, here and please note that the deal for societies is only available through My Golf Society.

Arklow Golf Club Membership Offer

It's a novel 'membership' turn, and a welcome one. Plenty of golf clubs offer membership deals of 15 months for the price of 12... but Arklow Golf Club has looked at peak golf times and decided to promote a nine month membership, for €575, which runs from now until September.

Given Arklow's location and its quality, that's a great deal and it also offers golfers who haven't been club members before the opportunity of joining a club... but not for the traditional annual timeframe. It makes it all seem less formal.

If you have any news or offers, drop me a line and I'll get it up on the blog. Always good to spread the word on Irish golf.
