Shining a Major Light on Ireland's North West

Multi-major winning golf legends check out Irish Golf links courses

When Tom Watson visited Ireland’s south west many years ago he found golf courses few around the world knew much about. He loved the place and put Ireland on the map when he raved about it back in the USA. And so began the pilgrimage to courses now on every golfer’s bucket list.

Such fabled stories are few and far between these days as Ireland is regarded as one of the best golf destinations in the world. That doesn’t mean, however, that all courses get equal billing. Golf marketing company, North & West Coast Links Golf Ireland, has been promoting the courses that dazzle along the coastline from Galway Bay,
up to Portsalon and Ballyliffin, and across to Ardglass. Many of these deserve far greater recognition, and recent efforts by North & West Coast Links Golf Ireland have been making their mark.

Major golf winners Jack Nicklaus and Sir Nick Faldo were amongst the golfing legends to take an interest in Irish links golf at this year’s Honda Classic, in Florida. North & West Coast Links Golf Ireland was flying the Irish flag by showcasing some of the best links courses in the north and west regions of Ireland through its new brochure and website www.northandwestcoastlinks.com.

Sir Nick Faldo is no stranger to golfing in Ireland, having redesigned the magnificent Old Course at North & West Coast Links Golf member club, Ballyliffin Golf Club, host venue for this year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

The golf marketing company was promoting bespoke golf tour packages to some of the top links courses Ireland has to offer, including Ballyliffin,  Royal Portrush, host venue for The Open in 2019, Carne, Enniscrone, Donegal, Narin & Portnoo, Rosapenna, Castlerock, Portstewart, Ardglass, Galway Bay, Westport and Portsalon. North & West Coast Links Golf CEO John McLaughlin said: “We had a great time at this year’s Honda Classic and it was phenomenal to see golfing icons like Jack Nicklaus and Sir Nick Faldo take a real interest in Irish golf.

“It’s clear that Ireland continues to hold a special place in the golfing world and the attraction to our links courses from some of the sport’s major stars gives us confidence that links golf in this part of the world will continue to grow from strength to strength,” concluded John.
